To Walk Or Not To Walk?

January 21, 2014

Before I even met Gene Gray or anyone else at Innovative IDM, I had heard about some of the “out there” ideas that Gene had implemented at IIDM. Being somewhat of a skeptic, I thought it was just a rumor and plain ole hooey, especially of all things, fire walking?

Well….having been at IIDM now for just under three months, participated in many of the daily ‘Hoopla’ meetings and even having hosted one myself, I now realize that it’s not hooey.

The chants, values and goals, have all become very real because the people behind them not only believe in them, but live by them. It is evidenced by all of the wonderful testimonials on this blog and shared in various Hoopla’s that I have been privileged enough to attend and continue happening everyday.

So, is that even a question? Fire walk? HECK yeah! Game ON!

A tale of donuts, a customer, and a grateful salesman

August 10, 2012

Today, we commemorated the 100,000th donut delivered by Innovative-IDM to MultiCam with a customer appreciation event. That’s nearly 500 donuts waiting for hungry employees — hey, it’s Friday, it’s payday AND free donuts. Life is great, right?!

Innovative-IDM is grateful for its business partnership with MultiCam. Which brings to mind one of my favorite factory automation bedtime stories . . .

Once upon a time, oh about 12 years ago, there was a company just getting started in the automation and controls parts distribution business. And there was a salesman.

The company needed customers, and the salesman found a customer who believed in him and his upstart company. The salesman was grateful for that customer’s confidence, so he thanked the customer sincerely by bringing donuts by one Friday morning. The next Friday, he brought donuts again. And for the next several weeks, months and years, this same salesman brought donuts every Friday morning for his customer, because it was gratitude he had, and the customer’s confidence he depended on.

Twelve and one-half years later, the donuts have been delivered to MultiCam, rain or shine, bear or bull market, orders up or down, every Friday morning. That first salesman was Innovative-IDM president Gene Gray (shaking hands with Multicam president Kris Hanchette below). — ph

Innovative Named Omron STI Distributor for Texas, Okla.

September 29, 2009

Omron STI has named Innovative Automation as its new distributor in Texas and Okla. Innovative will carry a full line from the North America’s largest manufacturer of machine and process safeguarding equipment and technologies.

Omron STI manufactures light curtains, safety scanners, interlock switches, safety mats, programmable safety controllers, remote safety I/O assemblies, and many more safety products. STI also is the exclusive provider of Laser-Safe Press Brake Guarding technology.STIhome.jpg

“Omron STI and Innovative will be a good marriage,” says Gene Gray, president of Innovative Automation. “Safety has been a concern in plants and factories for a long time. But with more factories automating, the chance for accidents involving machines increases. This brings one of the largest automation and machine safety lines right into the lap of our customers. It’s another great opportunity to help them protect their machines and people.”

Omron STI is the second major line to tap Innovative’s distribution network in the past three months. In June, SMC pneumatics named Innovative its Premier Technology Distributor for Texas and Okla.

“A lot of top tier companies recognize the reputation that Innovative Automation enjoys in the marketplace and they are coming to us, wanting us to represent their lines,” says Gray. “That’s just a bigger plus for our current customers and future customers. More choices from one source.”

Ballgame in Land o’ the Lakes

July 28, 2009

The boss took his family to the baseball game last night. Not at the Ballpark in Arlington, but at the Minnesota Metrodome. Looks like the boys are decked out in new lids as well.

That one T-shirt about the Cowboys seems soooooooo long ago, doesn’t it?

Innovative Automation Named to Inc. 5,000 List for Third Straight Year

July 9, 2009

For the third consecutive year, Innovative Automation is recognized as one of America’s fastest growing private companies, making the Inc. 5,000 list for 2009. The final rankings will be published in August.

There are more than 7 million companies with employees in the nation, meaning the Inc. 5,000 represents a top-shelf sliver of the American entrepreneurial effort.

“We have worked hard to acquire customers, but we have worked even harder to retain them,” says Gene Gray, president of Innovative Automation. “Everything we do or consider doing, we ask if it will benefit the customer. From our technology to our marketing to our sales to our manufacturing, our customers drive us.”

The Inc. 5,000 is an expansion of the Inc. 500, which Inc. introduced in 1982. The Inc. 5,000 includes the Inc. 500 but digs deeper to offer the most comprehensive look ever at the entrepreneurial engine driving the U.S. economy in the 5,000 fastest growing companies in America. The Inc. 5,000 is ranked according to percentage revenue growth over the past four years.

Reason #102 to Work at Innovative: Decorative Decanters

February 19, 2009

meeting2Ask us for a quote on a project and we’ll turn it around quick. We just completed one and won a job to help with a major water fountain project at a City of Dallas landmark facility.

Also, when we actually work on quotes, we have lavish wine decanters and blue, plastic roses present for inspiration, like Innovative’s Tim Mueller, Adam Ring and Gene Gray did in this promotional photo from 2006.

At our Houston office, the guys huddle around yellow roses but use the same decorative decanters when doing quotes.

President’s Club Winners

January 13, 2009

Innovative Automation awarded its highest honor to two employees at the company’s annual awards dinner Saturday.

Lonnie Muse and Jason Scott, both from the Automation Support Group, were awarded the 2008 President’s Club award by IA president Gene Gray.

“Both Lonnie and Jason are consistent over-achievers who produce over and above what is expected of them,” says Gray. “They embody the high standards of Innovative’s customer-focused culture, and they do so with selflessness. I am proud to be teammates with them.”

Muse (left) and Scott (right) also enjoyed dinner and conversation with the president after accepting thier awards. For the whole story, go here.
