June 21, 2010 Hoopla….And A Hug From Mike Davila

January 21, 2014

I had to get up at 4 am to catch a flight to Dallas (not my favorite time of day). I was to meet up with a young man I had never met before, Brandt King, at the Dallas airport to carpool to the Innovative Automation office in Carrollton.

We arrived at the office, I dropped off my stuff in the training room, then wandered around to check out the facility. Shortly before 8:30am I was grabbed and told to come into the very same training room I had been in 10 minutes prior…only it looked completely different! It was filled with people clapping, loud music, and a disco ball.

I listened to about 10 different people praise their peers for going above and beyond to help out the customers that give us our reason for coming to work every day. After being placed in the middle of the room and being told I wouldn’t be good…I wouldn’t be great….(you know how this ends)…our fearless leader, Gene Gray, insisted that one of our sales studs, Mike Davila, give me a hug in front of everyone.

This was definitely a bit of an uncomfortable first morning of work but it let me know, beyond the shadow of a doubt, that this company was serious about taking care of customers and having fun!

Innovative-IDM Culture and the Disco Ball…

January 16, 2014

Disco_ball4Can you say Disco Ball? As a fairly new member of the IIDM Team, this is my first “real” experience with company culture.

Sure most companies have some level of culture, but it usually reflects very little, especially to the employee where it matters most. This disco ball is one representation of our culture and a very evident symbol in our morning “Hoopla”. What better way to start the day than under a disco ball, clapping, getting “FULLY LOADED AMPED UP” (pun intended), and recognizing team members for a job well done. The Hoopla goes well beyond these examples, but hopefully it provides a visual of how our days begin.

Our culture is such an important aspect of this company and difficult to fully explain as it is much better when lived! Is this the norm? No, not even close, but it is accepted, anticipated, and without this developed culture, we would just be another company in the automation & controls world pushing products and services in hopes of a sale. We are unique, we are different, we are because we want to be and in my short tenure it shows very well to those who matter most – our customers, manufacturers, and our personnel.

Kickoff 2014 is next week and I know this is suppose to be a secret, but the winning team is “FULLY LOADED AMPED UP”!! Shhhhh keep this quiet – we don’t want to discourage the other teams from trying their very best…lol

Illegal Tender – The inspiration for many iconic figures

Illegal Tender - The inspiration for many iconic figures

Illegal tender has been the driving force behind many of our most history making, record breaking, earth shaking mind bending and earth ending events!
For instance, did you know that Illegal tender was the inspiration for Elvis Presley’s “love me tender?” In fact Illegal Tender was how Gibson bought his fist guitar which led to the ear melting solos of Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughn. I’ll bet you didn’t know that making a coin disappear was Houdini’s first magic trick. Illegal Tender taught Cassius Clay to “sting like a bee.” Inspired Bill Gates first line of code and was the key to Ben Franklins famous Kite Flight. It has been well documented that Illegal Tender imbued the etiquette of Lady Di, the strategery of George Patton, the wit of Mark twain and the training Regimen of AHNOLD SCHVAHTZNEGAHH….
Illegal Tender kindled the notorious battles between Tesla and Jefferson, Troy and Greece, Richard the Lionhearted and Phillip, Great Britain and the founding fathers, the allies and axis!!
Illegal Tender inspired the works of such greats as Rembrandt, Picasso, Michelangelo, and da Vinci…
Not the Beauty of Monroe the suave of Gable nor the wisdom of the Dalai Lama could eclipse the influence of Illegal tender. It was told that the super bowl asked Illegal Tender if it could advertise on the Blog (to no avail). Neil Peart plays Illegal Tender signature series Cymbals, and to top it off, Chuck Norris wears Illegal Tender footie PJ’s to bed!!
So get Ready for the most notorious Kick off event n IIDM history…the real winner?

Kickoff at Innovative-IDM is the Super Bowl, the World Series and any other championship you can think of all rolled into one. We divide into teams which are made up of individuals from other groups, roles and locations. Kickoff allows us to get to know each other, to get out of our comfort zones, to learn and grow and to compete. It’s a time to enjoy accomplishments from the previous year and focus on our goals for the upcoming year. We certainly knock down Company Goal #4 – HAVE FUN! The winning team is remembered forever along the walls of the office (well, along with every other team). You also get a blue ribbon, a plaque and bragging rights! Each year gets more and more fun! I know our team is FULLY LOADED AMPED UP!!!
